obsession

it's melting again, and i'm afraid it's just another fooler. that yet another storm will dump yet another foot and a half of snow and ice on me. i'm obsessed with the weather. and i've come to the conclusion that people talk about the weather because it's IMPORTANT. this idea that talking about the weather is something you do when you want to make small talk and can't think of anything in common with someone is hogwash. bogswallow. crumbtriffery.

only people who are never acutally OUT IN it have no interest in weather. our whole world is freeze-dried, baked, fried, and soaked in weather, for crying out loud. it's what global warming, and greenhouse gases and melting icecaps are all about. and if people would just get off their big, fat SUV's and get OUT IN the weather, they'd be a little more serious about taking a good, hard look at their own contributions to aforementioned looming calamities, and make some hard choices to turn things around.

the move to the 'new' house looms, and i'm grumpy

yes, thanks Claire, i think i have lots of help moving. several friends with pickup trucks have offered, so we're moving the big furniture to the garage at the 'new' house this Saturday, hopefully. then i can paint the 'old' house, for the renter who's taken a lease on it.

the snow is usually pretty much history by this time of year, but we just had SO MUCH of it this year, and it's been cool-ish. in fact, this time last year (because we had almost no snow last year - also very unusual) i'd had my strawberries under plastic tunnels for a month, and they were covered with blossoms. at the present, they're still under 3 feet of snow. the pussy willows are blooming, though, which lifts my spirits considerably.

Winter’s ghastly freezing earth
Snow storms clad your countries girth
Fiddle far too cold to play
Compose for first buds of May

Mother’s nature may compensate
Springtime joy will reinstate
Winters ends life’s hibernation
Springtime breathes a soul’s liberation

Not to late to make a stand
Care for our mighty land
Rescue nature from our man made trap
Partner nature on her final lap

Best wishes

Ah. You have a poem.

I enjoy it so much when Lindsay writes poetry.

Our spring weather has turned back to cold and rain.

I don't need to read all the global warming stories. Just need to step outside. The weather is going nuts and no one notices.

By now you're in the throes of moving and I hope it's going well.
